Deadzone: WiP Asterians

Evening Guys and Girls,

Normal update time, this time based on Deadzone.

I've been slowly working my way through the Asterian launch bundle I bought and I'm getting closer and closer to having the faction starter box painted up. Heres a few pics of the guys that are very nearly finished:

They are all very nearly finished, needing the odd touch up and in the case of the 2 of them they need their arms and guns sorting.

Also as proof I'm working on them heres a few very WiP pics of the first word bearers squad:

The red has come out rather blood angels looking to me so I will be toning it down with some dark red glazes I think.

What do you guys think?

Well thats it for now, I'll be back later in the week :)

  1. Love the Asterian's mate, that blue's looking superb. Mind sharing the breakdown of how you painted them?

Agree on the washes for the Word Bearers, they're far too bright at this time.

  2. I'd say a brown glaze first, then red, to tone down the Word Bearers, still its a very promising start.

  3. I'll echo Dave and say that a dark brown glaze would probably be best to remove some of the brightness from the red. I'd be worried that a red glaze would make the red deeper and take them further into BA territory.

It's looking good tho mate, you're off to a fine start.

  4. Accentuating the shadowy parts with a pinch of black mixed into the basecoat colour could help?

A dark red ink or glazing with Tamiya Red Gloss would both darken and saturate the red to make it less orange.

Alternatively, do what I do and look at appropriate colour GW illustrations of what you've painting. You'll get some great ideas that way.
