Whats on the Desk

Evening readers,

Its time for a update again, this time just a general whats on the desk update:

First up are the first 4 brethren for the possessed, they are taking shape very slowly as I'm enjoying taking my time on them:

some close ups:

this is the first brethren I started and he is very nearly finished, just need to finish off his armour and add some details ot his back.

This is the first of 2 planned female brethren, I took the legs from one of the archers, shaved and filed them down, the torso and head are scratch sculpts. Decided to have her wearing her mask too and I'm quite pleased with how it looks. I still need to decide on weapons for her and do more tidying up and sculpt work.

Next up shall be my painting project for a while:

Squad of wyches which I've had built for ages, figured I haven't painted anything for a while so shall work on these as I do the conversion work on the cult of the possessed. It was a close call between the wyches and doing some Tau stuff, the wyches won out mainly because of me discovering a DE forum called The Dark City via luckyno.5s blog which has a lot of inspiring DE stuff on it.

Right figured I would do another one of my posts on stuff that I find inspiring:

LordDirks log on Advanced Tau tactica:  I love this log, LordDirk posts up a lot of concept sketches for Tau stuff, ranging from new auxilliary races through to designs for Farsight enclave warriors. His concepts for armoured kroot heavily influenced my own kroot who have had armour and helmets added (I shall get round to posting these soon).

[Wolfs16's Tau log] The ARC-16's on Advanced Tau tactica: Another hugely inspiring log for me the conversion work he has done especially on true scaling his crisis suits is amazing. The inspired me to upscale my own Crisis suits though in no where near as complex manor. I really like how he posts Fluff for each unit when he finishes painting them too.

I shall leave it at just those 2 this time round :)

Before I go welcome to new followers Warhamster and atr_127 cheers for the support guys :)

Thats it for now shall have another update in a few days time, until then make sure you go see the new X-men film as it is pure win  :D

Dark Eldar Archon

Evening readers its again that time where I ramble on about hobby related things :P

First up I have been nominated for another of the "Stylish blogger" awards this time by Rictus over on Recalcitrant Daze So thank you sir :) Now Rictus has described me as having Modellers ADD worse than he does and he is likely right (just don't let him know that) as I have already swapped from messing with red corsairs to working on some Dark Eldar again haha.

Don't worry its not the end of the corsairs, theres actually a WiP one in this very update :) but first off here is the finished Archon:

Taken a fair while to finish this guy(had him since January :( ) but my interest comes and goes in armies so much that I normally don't get much done before I'm messing with something else. I aimed to give the skeleton on his base a bit of a burnt look as if it had just had its flesh vapourised by the husk blade. The latest DE models especially the scourges have caused my sudden interest in DE as to how long it will last well whos knows......

next up is a WiP Red Corsair:

He still needs a fair bit more work doing to him but I figured I'd throw him up to show some progress.

I have hit a bit of a brick wall with the corsairs, namely GWs latest price rises that will hit at the end of the month. Now I don't buy that much anymore most my projects use 2nd hand models or simply stripping old armies that I collected in cheaper times these Corsairs for example are based around the marines I got when I first started this hobby about 9 years ago.

However there are somethings I would like to buy for the corsairs such as a space wolf squad and some empire militia for the human pirate conversions but I don't know if I really want to support GWs policy of these constant increases. I guess I will have to make my mind up this week so I could order them before the increases hit.

On a lighter note seen as I have been nomiated for the blogger award again, I thought I would put up some more links to things I find inspiring:

Diary of a Workbench by Georc : A good few years back now(2005/6 I think) when I first got back into the hobby I used to go on a Dark Elf forum called Druchii.net, Georc was a member there and was the person who inspired me to first start sculpting as his character conversions were brilliant. He has further improved both his painting and sculpting work since then and I still find his stuff a huge inspiration. He also has a blog but doesn't seem to use it.

Garret Art lair: Brilliant art blog that I first stumbled on via his page on deviantart, the pictures he has been doing recently of characters from the mass effect series are amazing, easily some of the best fan art I have ever seen.

I shall leave it at just 2 this time or this post will get too big :P like I said before I shall try make this a semi regular feature :)

before I go theres a Hi to new followers: Rictus, Kiski, Marcin Ciszewicz and Danny Allen cheers for the support guys :)

Should have an update in a few days liekly to be some FoW but also possibly a test human pirate :)

Dark Eldar Raider and Archon

Afternoon readers, its time for another update :)

Seen as my latest thing is to bounce around between projects so as I dont get bored of any single thing I bring you a Dark Eldar related update :P

Today I have finally finished off the raider that I got at Christmas, its taken me 4 months and the nagging of a few friends to get the energy together to finish it :( a very mojo destroying model. However now it is done bar a few touch ups and the addition of some transfers to the Sail (once I decide which ones I want to use :P )

so here it is:

And the base:

Not really my best paint job but it will do, I'm just glad that its done with. The washes I applied have come out patchy in places so I might have to turn those into battle damage of some sort. The highlights are pretty basic but they look ok from a distance.

Now originally I had planned to abandon DE altogether after this model and sell or trade off the unbuilt kits I've got however I'm thinking I might continue with them and will be building a quad of wyches to paint :)

Also I have built the Archon I have had sitting around for months:

few conversions, cut the gloved hand holding the husk blade off the metal arm and combined it with the upper arm of the pointing power sword arm from the warriors sprue. Also given him the trophy rack from the Warrior sprue with the addition of an extra skull.

His base has the remains of some unfortunate who met the wrong end of the husk blade, seen as the codex says it vaporises anything it touches I figured a blackened skeleton would work well :) might yet add a skeletal arm holding a bayonet or something :)

So thats it for another update, next time it might be the Archon, some more Necrons or possibly some urban war gladiators :D

As ever let me know what you think guys :)

I return from the Warp

*Cleans Dust off Blog*

Wow it’s been nearly 3 months since I updated this blog that’s well terrible……..

Sorry about that, but with Christmas and New Year I sort of got distracted. But I’m back now so hopefully I can get this blog back to being updated more regularly again :)

Right first off the Wracks Tutorial is nearly finished (better late than never I guess :P) and will be up soon :)

Secondly I’d like to welcome some new followers, so Hi to Joao Mota, spacejacker and Ludo Weyden cheers for the support guys :)

So now to some pictures, though I slowed down over the Christmas period in recent weeks I have been quite productive so heres a rather large selection of bits and pieces:

First up a squad of Dark eldar Warriors:

I really enjoyed these guys and the agoniser gave me a chance to try out an energy effect which I was pretty damn happy with in the end. On the downside I quickly lost interest in the DE so this squad and a raider I have half painted are likely to be all I do for them bar a few characters L

Next is the first full squad of my updated and true/up scaled Word Bearers:

These guys took an age to convert and there are some areas that I’m not to happy with but over all I think they have turned out quite well. I’m currently converting the next squad but will be taking a break from them as there is only so much filing down of plasticard that I can take haha

Next is a unit of Scouts for my FoW SS:

Photobucket

Nothing special here just fancied a change from painting 40k and also a chance to test out some tufts of static grass which I had picked up

And finally that brings us up to date, my current project is the updating of my Imperial Guard force: The 13th Karkon Grenadiers. It mainly involves some new heads ( the awesome Pig Iron Colony militia covered helmets and HQ heads) as well as some new camo and highlights.

So far I have finished a single squad of Guardsmen:

I have also converted a platoon commander from a metal Cadian officer. The model was used as a traitor guard captain in the past so I have had to re sculpt the Aquila on his chest, he needs his camo updating and highlights too;

The IG will be my project for a while (well until I get distracted: P ) but there may be some BFG, Mordheim and some other random models popping up in here in the near future :)

Also I’m beginning to move my hobby focus a bit more towards drawing, as GW stuff especially is getting too expensive for me now that’s why most my projects are updating my old armies L . I will be getting a new graphics tablet for my birthday so expect to see the odd bit of artwork pop up in here too :)

Well that’s it for this update, as ever any comments and suggestions are more than welcome.

I’ll try not leave it so long between updates now :P

Wracks..............well a single Wrack :P

Morning readers, time for another quick update I had promised zombies last time but unfortunately I got distracted, you can all blame that villainous Mr Feral for this, as I was talking to him on MSN the other day and mentioned that i had an idea for converting some Wracks from the new Dark Eldar codex mainly as their wont be any models available to represent them for a while, he of course told me to make it so I have:

Wracks

Wracks

Wracks

He is based off an empire flagellent with a lot of GS work drawing heavily from the art work in the Dark Eldar codex, so he sports an iron mask, an additional spine and random drug dispensers plugged directly into his swollen back.

He is a little rough around the edges but hes only a test model after all If I decide to to a force of DE he will get tidied up and might gain some friends :P

So what do you think guys?
