Well I threatened it last time and well its here, time to put up a sketch :O
I'm a bit out of practice with the tablet been sketching on paper more lately so I'm a tad rusty, already can see mistakes on the face, finally beginning to get somewhere style wise too :D
right so to the artwork:
This is a character called Hana from a PS1 game called Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix , why such an obscure game I hear you ask well been sorting out the loft recently and found some old PS1 games in a box this being one of them, I vaguely remember playing it though I was always more into tekken and platform games than survival horror ones as a kid.
After a quick google search I decided to have a crack at drawing her. As her costume looked rather simple. Heres a link to the gamespot page for the game for those interested.
Added a few simple colours using the tone sheet effects I've got on GIMP, not a perfect drawing like I said but I feel that I'm improving.
Whilst on the subject of art I stumbled upon a great site the other day called comicartfans.com been very useful for searching artists I like so as I can then look at their work and incorporate some of their influence into my own style :)
I guess this means I can put something on the Digital Art sub page at last haha

Tablet sketch and blog award
Well its come to that time again, where I post up something vaguely constructive :P
This time its another sketch, been busy over the past 2 weeks so have done very little painting or modelling at all. How ever all is not lost I've been trying to get my head around GIMP and finally found out how to create custom brushes as well as how to add ones other people have made. So after a quick browse through deviantart I found a number of brushes that I thought would be useful.
So here it is:
like I said its rough I didn't bother finishing off the arms and guns but the torso and head are where I have used the brushes.
The main brush is a Tone one, these are what manga artists use for shading basically it is just a fine set of dots that act as shadow. You add these and then where the hightlights are you erase them, best example of this is her skin. On the jeacket I have used multiple layers of the tone to build up some darker shadows.
Another brush set I found on Deviantart is one for doing hair. Something that I find very difficult to draw so downloading them was a no brainer, I sketched the hair straight on in black and then swapped to white and lightly went over some areas to add the highlights. Of courseit looks quite crude now but I hope to get to grips with them over time :)
Here are the brushes that I downloaded:
Screentones- 28 Brushes - GIMP by ShiroiSinCell
Gimp Furr Brushes by Gymnart
Next up it appears that I have been nomiated for one of these hobby award thingys that seem to be popping up everywhere. Thank you to that scoudrel known only as Mister Feral for nominating my blog,
Now I don't normally buy into these chain letter type things, so instead of telling you 7 things about myself(which would likely bore you) I will merely put up a few links to some blogs/sites/logs/artists that I find inspiring:
Night Lords 18th Battle Company project log by Dan the Daemon
This is a hugely inspiring log that I stumbled upon when browsing bolter and chainsword last year, I pinched and slightly modified his method for truescaling marines and used it on my Word Bearers. I love the realism of his marines they all carry a decent amount of equipment and all look unique with different trophies, armour types, helmets etc. For anyone doing chaos or even loyalist marines this is a recommended read :)
Reiq on DeviantArt
Now some of his artwork might not be to everyones tastes I dont like some of it either(giant boobs :\), but I find his livestream and youtube videos quite interesting to watch mainly to see his sketching process, as he uses next to no construction lines at all which is very hard to do. Hobby related he designed one of the characters for the soda pop miniatures line.
Genzoman on DeviantArt
I stumbled upon this gallery a few years back and have followed it since then, I love his drawing style sort of manga/anime mixed with a more serious style. Some of his takes on myths and gods are particularily good. Even considering buying his art book.
AWOLs log on Ammobunker
AWOL is a friend of mine who I first met on the Ammobunker. Hes always working on a variety of projects from 40k to FoW to historicals he paints up some great stuff and his scratch builds in particular are always awesome he even kindly sent me a 2 part mold for a autogun he scratched before :)
Blood on the streets
I've been unlucky enough to know the foul kiwi known only as Foot for a few years now, as well as constantly nagging me to paint/ draw stuff or buy games he occasionally finds the time to paint something ;). His latest projects are zombie apocalpse and Malifaux stuff which are coming on nicely. I would recommend looking at his mordheim and bloodpact forces as they are both very inspiring.
Feralique
I've been talking to Mr Feral for a couple of years now being exposed to both his and Foots madness has probably left me mentally scarred :P Hes constantly working on a variety of projects from 40k to pirates to EDEN. Though he is easily distracted when he does finally finish something it is normally great. I'm finding is latest project of making a squad of zoicans from the Gaunts Ghosts books very interesting.
Well theres a few inspiring links, might make this a semi regular thing to explain some things that inspire me :)
Well thats it for now quite a block of text there :P , might be some FoW models ready to post up in a few days time along with a few extra sketches :)
as ever let me know what you think.

Decided to sketch Lady again as shes simple to draw and seen as its just something to test these brushes on I figured there would be no point trying to do something new and put a lot of effort into it.

Flames of War SS and Sketches
Evening Readers time for another update this time involving some small scale stuff and a few sketches.
I'm still pretty much on my hobby break but have been doing the odd bit of painting, mainly on my FoW SS force.
I've been updating one of my panzer grenadier platoons because frankly the orginal paint job I did on them a few years ago was so bad I'm not even goign to show it. So I have been repainting their summer and autumn oak leaf, adding the odd highlight to the skin and addign some extra details to the bases, so far I have the command stand and 2 infantry stands done for platoon 2( already fully updated the first platoon a while back):
Also I have started work on a Jagdpanther, I had got this model basecoated ages ago but never finished it so now I'm doing the details, will add some foliage to it as well as some decals if I can find the sheet :(
Now onto the sketches, been playing about with the tablet again, this time practising drawing female faces in my ever evolving style they are rough but they were fairly quick sketches. So what better place to look than games for inspiration so we have:
An Asari from the Mass Effect series, which is amongst my favourite series of games of all time as well as having some of the best alien designs out there. If you havent played it go get them! :P
Next up is Lady from Devil may cry 4, had the game for years but still haven't played it much on account of my Xbox breaking at the time I got it and then when I eventually got a new one me getting distracted with other games :( I plan to fix that soon though.
Plan on practicing male faces next which gives me a good excuse to draw some of the characters from Darksiders( also an awesome game)
Those with sharp eyes will notice I have added an extra banner to the top of the blog this is my crude skills with GIMP being put to use, it hasn't come out to badly but anyone with photoshop experience would be able to make something much better with ease. Decided to add it to try add some extra colour to the blog I plan on messing with some backgrounds at some point too.
All this is inspired by what LuckyNo.5 has done over on his Eye of Error blog, the extra touches he has added to the blog make it look really good, so I'm going to attempt to shamelessly copy them with likely inferior results :P
Also welcome to CMDante forgot to say this the past 2 updates which is rather dumb of me, cheers for the support dude :)
Well thats it for this update, as ever any comments and feed back is more than welcome :)
*Of course the Asari is copyright of Bioware and Lady is copyright of Capcom

Tablet sketch this time of Harley Quinn
Afternoon readers I strike again :P
Been messing around with the tablet more, this time knocking together a sketch of Harley Quinn from Batman:

rough around the edges again but it is more for practice than anything :) , feeling like I'm improving with the tablet :)
Now I think I will look into setting up a Deviantart account
As ever any comments are more than welcome :)
Harley Quinn is of course copyright of DC comics

Tablet sketch
Afternoon readers, I have threatened it for the past few updates and today the time has come to put up one of the sketches I've done with the tablet :)

It's Doctor Doom, Dormammu and X-23. "Why such a random mix of characters" I hear you cry. Well I got marvel vs Capcom 3 a few days back and these guys are my team of choice. Doom and Dormammu have some good ranged attacks and X-23 is really really quick so it made for a good mix :P
Plus it was an opportunity to Draw Dr Doom and seen as he is my favourite Marvel character I could hardly turn it down now could I :P
I'm quite happy with this sketch of course there are some mistakes in it, but over the past few weeks I've been trying to evolve my heavily anime/manga style to something a bit more realistic and more in line with the art of DC and Marvel.
By far the easiest way to do this has been to Draw the eyes in a more realistic shape and also change how I draw noses. I will continue to try and improve my style hopefully to something I will be fully happy with :)
I've found that drawing this has been more rewarding than painting up some models, whether thats because I have no mojo or that I have finally come to the point where I want to step out of the modelling hobby I don't know :)
That means you might have to put up with more of these updates :P
As ever feel free to let me know what you think :)
